 The Corridor Growth Fund

The Corridor Growth Fund is a Manchester City Council fund to support research and development-related employment on the Oxford Road Corridor, a unique business location and home to two of the UK's leading universities and the largest clinical campus in Europe.

You can apply for grants of up to £169,500 for businesses looking to locate on the corridor, create jobs and attract further investment.

The Technology Strategy Board ‘SMART’ scheme tackles the funding gap often experienced by many small and early-stage companies with innovative ideas and high growth ambition and potential. 
 It offers co-funding to UK-based pre-start-ups, start-ups, micro businesses and SMEs, to carry out science, engineering and technology R&D projects which could lead to successful new products, processes and services. Three types of grant are available:Proof of marketProof of concept and Development of prototype There are six rounds per year and Round 4 closes on 21 November 2013
Round 5 on 30 January 2014 and Round 6 on 27 March 2014 . All deadlines are noon.

 Fit for Health

 Fit for Health is an EU-funded support network of experts and National Contact Points in 22 countries aiming at the successful participation of research centres, universities and innovative high-tech, research-intensive SMEs in EU-funded "HEALTH" research projects.

Fit for Health offers wide-ranging services by ensuring excellent coverage of the entire innovation pipeline: the support network helps innovative SMEs, researchers from universities and research centres during all phases of FP7 projects, from the project idea to the efficient and effective valorisation of project results. Several services are provided: individual assistance and consultation, target-group specific on-site and virtual FP7 covering proposal writing, grant negotiations and project management and support in finding project partners through the well-established, highly visible SME/researcher profiles database.

Horizon 2020

Horizon 2020, which is part of the European Union’s package of support services for research and innovation, will launch in January. The fund is available to any company developing new products but small businesses are guaranteed a significant share of the cash.

This fund is the latest format of the longstanding Framework Programme. The current scheme, Framework Programme 7 (FP7), runs until the end of 2013. During the course of FP7, 1,659 UK businesses successfully applied for the £1.2bn available.

UKbusinesses have been second only to Spain in terms of grant success.

Next year, the amount up for grabs by SMEs will double to £2.5bn, reflecting the contribution of small and medium sized companies to the UK economy.
