The MedTECH Centre welcomes Zilico to the North West

Healthcare  technology firm Zilico has established its headquarters at Manchester Science Park.

Zilico announced earlier this year it would transfer its operations across the Pennines after securing £1.8m in backing from the North West Fund for Biomedical and other investors.

The company, which was spun out of Sheffield University and Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, will be based at the Science Park's MedTech Centre.

It has developed technology to diagnose cervical cancer quicker and more accurately and is preparing to bring its first product to market in early 2013.

Its arrival takes the number of companies at the MedTech Centre to 15. It is a hub for healthcare technology businesses and is a joint venture between Central Manchester University Hospital NHS Trust, Manchester Science Park and TRUSTECH, an NHS innovation service.

Centre Manager, Dr Paul Hanmer, "The MedTECH Centre team are looking forward to working with Zilico to accelerate their development and adoption by the NHS. The technology promises to be a game-changer in the detection of cervical cancer and is exactly the sort of innovation we are looking to assist in order to improve patient care."
