Open Call to SMEs and entrepreneurs: Bradford NHS Open for Innovation

Digital Catapult Centre Yorkshire is working with Bradford Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCGs), Medipex and DHEZ Ltd to bring SMEs and entrepreneurs an exciting opportunity to develop solutions that address Bradford’s major health challenges.  With the right solutions, this could result in clear routes to market for your innovation.

We are looking for companies from across the UK with products and/or innovations that can be adapted and deployed to provide the right solutions to everyday NHS challenges in Bradford.  The CCGs are looking for solutions to be ready to pilot by April 2017 but the requirement is for scalable innovations and services which can be built up in a phased approach.

To support the process Digital Catapult Centre Yorkshire is hosting a briefing event on 18 October 2016 in Bradford.  SMEs and entrepreneurs from the region and across the UK are welcome.  These briefings will explain the context and challenges to be tackled, provide an opportunity to see relevant data sets, and to explore questions in a workshop setting.  The CCGs are particularly looking for solutions that will:

·        Reduce high level A&E attendances and unplanned short-stay admissions of children with acute breathing problems such as asthma byinnovations which could address communication and education in the community, patient self-management, remote monitoring, or improving triage to the most appropriate services;

·        Improve patients’ adherence to their medicines and reduce medicine waste by innovations which help to target and direct interventions that encourage patients to take ownership of their medicines, allowing them to take their medicines correctly, avoid waste, and innovations that monitor and record  patients repeat prescriptions,  and overall patient self-management;

·        Reduce unnecessary outpatient referrals/follow-ups and improve co-ordination between primary and secondary careby introducing screening and educational tools to identify recovery status and assistance, remote monitoring to proactively detect and intelligently prioritise/potentially defer outpatient appointments determined by need/risk, alternatives to face to face appointments in hospital and community settings, or integrated systems supporting care between primary and secondary care. Innovations must have a positive effect by directly reducing outpatient health service utilisation, especially for respiratory conditions with high outpatient volumes.

Following the briefing event, participants will be given an opportunity to submit proposals for solutions. Some proposals will be shortlisted and further workshops focused around these innovations will take place with CCG representatives and other experts.

So, if you have a passion to help the NHS deliver on their challenges, and have a product or innovation that could be developed into a real solution, then follow the link to book a place.
