Twenty million pounds to improve health in four Northern English cities.

12 September 2016

The Connected Health Cities (CHC) initiative was officially launched at this year’s NHS Expo in Manchester last week, underpinning the Government’s Health North programme.

CHC will pilot data-intensive methodology to optimise the treatment of the Region’s greatest health challenges. In Manchester this will involve projects focused on:

  • Reducing antimicrobial resistance and over-prescribing of antibiotics.
  • Optimising care for stroke patients
  • Creating linked data at local, regional and national level to support population health.

At the heart of each CHC lies the ‘Ark’; a secure, combinatorial data analytics facility with state-of-the-art data management and analysis tools, underpinned by research, education and training.

£20M will be spent, bringing together academia, NHS & Social Care, and industry.
