Disruptive innovation in eye-care - businesses that change lives

03 November 2014

Health 2.0 Manchester is a meetup group focused on innovations in the delivery of healthcare and health related technology. This group is dedicated to creating a community around  digital healthcare in Manchester as part of the international Health 2.0 movement. This community  aims to share, discuss, showcase and develop ideas to improve patient care. If you are interested in the intersection of health care and information and communication technology, this is a community for you. Technology enthusiasts, developers, students, academics, physicians, nurses, pharmacists, patients, designers, social workers, NHS leaders, industry and entrepreneurs are welcome.

This time the group will explore  opportunities in the eye-care market, and then have a discussion about how and why  large companies like Bayer can work with startups.

There are 280m people with visual impairment and eye disease and 39m who are blind. 90% are in poor countries and 80% are curable. It is a huge market ripe for disruptive innovation. Harnessing the disruptive innovation of the startup sector to solve problems in this space has exciting potential both to launch successful businesses and seriously change and save lives.

Health2.0 Manchester has the founders of EyeFocus - the world's first startup accelerator focussed on eye-care. They are going to be investing up to 20,000 Euros into startups that are helping prevent, cure, and live with eye-disease and blindness, and offering a 3 month accelerator program.

This is a rare opportunity for you to hear from and talk to leaders in that space:
