Focus on.... NHS England

What is the aim of NHS England?

The main aim of NHS England is to improve the health outcomes for people in England. Central to that ambition is to place the patients and the public at the heart of everything NHS England does.

How can NHS England help MedTECH Innovators?

NHS England oversees the budget, planning, delivery and day-to-day operation of the NHS in England as set out in the Health and Social Care Act 2012.

“Promoting innovation and accelerating spread of best ideas and treatments is key to our ambition to make the NHS the best healthcare system in the world." Professor Sir Bruce Keogh, Medical Director of NHS England.

As well as overseeing the Academic Health Science Networks (see a previous news story on this website), NHS England manages schemes and initiatives to foster innovation within the health system.

No, sorry, I still don't know what that means for my business.

OK, look for example at the the NHS Innovation Fellowship, an NHS England scheme that will bring together 15 world-class innovators to work with NHS senior leaders, clinicians and Academic Health Science Network leaders to embed and foster a culture of innovation across the health and care system.

Or perhaps, an event  which takes place on the 8th and 9th October, to enable radiotherapy manufacturers to demonstrate innovations in a commercially confidential setting to a panel of clinicians and managers.  It will be an opportunity to explore what is available now and what may become available in the future to the NHS to have the best cancer services in the world. It will also open up discussions on planning and ways of delivering the best and most innovative radiotherapy services for cancer patients.

NHS England also oversees procurement and commissioning of goods and services and has a wealth of information about clinical commissioning groups (CCGs) on its website. This includes guidance to CCGs and details of which CCGs serve which geographical areas. That might be worth knowing if you're planning to sell to the NHS.

It's well worth taking a look at the NHS England website:
