Funding the future: supporting SMEs to drive local economic growth

25 October 2013

News of an IPPR North seminar, Funding the future: supporting SMEs to drive local economic growth, in Manchester on Friday 8 November.

Recent government focus has been on the importance of small and medium sized businesses (SMEs) as the key to economic recovery in the UK. Historically, the North has had a lower level of SMEs activity than the rest of the UK. Yet it is SMEs which create the bulk of opportunities for those individuals who are currently shut out of the labour market and strong business performance in the north is critical to any notion of rebalancing the economy.

This event is kindly supported by Lloyds Banking Group and has been designed to bring together local and national stakeholders to explore the role that SMEs play in driving local economic growth.

Speakers at this event include:

  • Mike Blackburn, Chairman of Greater Manchester LEP
  • Ed Cox, Director, IPPR North

Other speakers are to be confirmed shortly.
